We’ve only had it for a week.
And yet it seems to have captured our imaginations already!
If you follow us on Twitter, you might have seen the silly photo of our staff person Colin sporting a pair of new Oculus Rift virtual reality glasses.
Oculus Rift, the virtual reality glasses created a storm of interest when it launched a Kickstarter campaign back in 2012. People were interested in working with Oculus to develop great games, productivity solutions, design solutions and even therapy applications.
It wasn’t long before larger companies started paying attention. But before any major bidding wars were declared, Facebook bought them up.
It’s a fascinating story with some very real world implications.
Leading architects and 3-D designers quickly embraced the technology and applied it their presentations. We’ve seen one or two interesting approaches for real estate as well, but as far as we see it, the surface hasn’t been scratched when it comes to the possibilities virtual reality technology can bring to our industry.
So we bought a developer kit!
The virtual reality space is becoming a legitimate space to explore for marketers and researchers. With the costs of the technology coming down, and people’s comfort with wearing technology changing, the right team could create some real industry-bending solutions.
We figure that’s worth checking out. And hey, Colin’s never looked more science-fiction like!
So what do you think of virtual reality and the Oculus Rift? Think it could work for Real Estate?
