This has been quite the week for the Redman Tech team!
This year, we were a Team Sponsor for the Whyte Avenue Rotary Club’s fourth annual Hockey Night on Whyte. As Team Sponsors, our name was given to one of the youth teams, and they ended up making it to the semi finals!
Hockey Night on Whyte is an annual 4-on-4 tournament that brings youth, businesses and organizations together for hockey and barbecue, two truly Canadian pastimes. The tournament allows homeless youth and youth at risk to participate in the games and partake in the merriment. As we know, groups like Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS), the Old Strathcona Youth Society and YOUCAN are out there helping youth people every day. But in those centres, they don’t always get to play with people from other communities. Hockey Night on Whyte allows them to do that in a safe space where they can feel welcome. This year, they beat their fundraising goal, and we’re proud that we got to get involved with this great cause.
But that wasn’t everything!
On Friday, the staff also got together to help support our Account Manager, Colin as he raised money for his radio show on Edmonton community radio station, CJSR FM 88.5. Colin has been a long-time programmer and DJ for his show, Makin’ Whoopie which airs from 7AM-9AM MST Monday mornings. Every year (as they have for the last 30 years) the station hosts a fund-drive campaign to cover it’s operation and equipment costs (and to make up for shortfalls in other funding). This year, our team supported Colin in his hard work, and Colin met his fundraising goal! Idris won the prized toque from the Long John Index Service of Canada, a well respected and highly hilarious Edmonton institution.
We think it’s really important to support the organizations and community initiatives that drive the passions of our team. Everyone here has unique experiences, and we work to help support each other’s various causes. We all recognize the value that organizations for youth, media, culture and health care play in helping us all live better lives. We feel lucky that we are able to help support the team in their individual causes.
