Yesterday, the ever popular and Facebook-owned Instagram launched a new feature application. Hyperlapse is only available for iOS, but it brings high-end time lapsed videos to mobile phones.
Time lapse video making is when video is shot at a lower frame rate than 24 frames per second, and then is played back at the normal rate. So what might take a long time to shoot, say a sunrise, becomes a video that lasts a few seconds.
According to Instagram, “Hyperlapse is great for capturing vast but slow movements, such as clouds, the movement of a crowd or a landscape moving outside of a car.”
Now all of this makes most people think their arms might fall off trying to hold perfectly steady for the time needed to get a decent time-lapse video. But Instagram claims that their built-in stabilization technology “lets you create moving, handheld time lapses that result in a cinematic look, quality and feel — a feat that has previously only been possible with expensive equipment.”
They suggest that businesses “should not make any changes to their current content strategy, but instead use Hyperlapse as an additional tool to augment audience’s experiences within Instagram by sharing creative videos.”
Man made structures and natural processes are excellent subjects to work with, so any real estate professional has plenty of canvas to work with. Videos leading up to a home and shots of structures with clouds are things that immediately come to mind. We recommend visiting the Instagram Blog for Business to see new creative videos and to help you generate ideas.
We’ve just gotten our hands on it here, and at only 10.4 MB in size, anyone should be able to get it and get going on their iPhone. Remember that right now, it’s only available for iOS. We’ve given it a shot, and we’re impressed with it so far. Watch for future videos here and on our Twitter and Facebook.
We think that this opens up limitless video possibilities for REALTORS® and real estate professionals of all stripes.

Good Luck!
