Tell Me Lies Tell Me Beautiful Lies?
One of the things I’ve noticed is that real estate agents are at a high risk for falling privy to bad SEO companies. This is actually quite understandable to a certain extent. Once the market picks up, few real estate agents have the time to sit in front of their computers and think about their website’s content, optimization, or social media. At the same time, given the digital age we live in, REALTORS® with strong online presence are more likely to succeed. So agents are left wondering how they can juggle their real estate careers while marketing their brands and growing their online presence…enter the SEO Companies.
There’s quite a few SEO Companies out there with varying prices, methods, and services that it is imperative for the success of your real estate business you recognize the warning signs of a bad company. Just like you can recognize the signs of a bad property deal. Below is my list of the Top 5 Lies Bad SEO Companies Will Tell You:
Lie #1: “We’ll get you on the first page of Google/Bing/Yahoo in less than a month.”
I hate to break it to you, but no one can ever guarantee your website the #1 spot in Google because no one (except for Google) knows exactly how to do it. They’ve worked hard to become the top Global Search Engine, so I doubt they’ll be revealing their secret algorithms anytime soon.
Lie #2: “The more links that point to your website the better. So we’ll get you hundreds of backlinks quickly.”
If an SEO Company ever says this to you ask them if they’ve ever heard of Penguin and walk away. Penguin is an updated version of Google’s algorithm, that specifically targets spammy link building tactics. Having low quality links pointing to your website can do some serious harm to your website…it’s also why buying links is a big no-no.
Lie #3: “Content is overrated, just recycle the content on a competitor’s site and stuff it full of arbitrary keywords.”
Not only will this lie get you to pay a ridiculous amount of money for terrible results, but it can also result in some stiff penalties on your real estate website from Google. Worst of all, you will lose credibility from community members who see you as a trusted resource when making the most important investment in their lives.
Lie #4: “It’s ok to target inappropriate or irrelevant keywords because you’ll still gain traffic to your website.”
Just because you’re getting traffic to your website doesn’t mean your business is booming. Think of it like selling a home, you’re not looking for any potential buyer— you’re looking for the right buyer. If you’re targeting the wrong keywords your site will likely have a high bounce rate and low conversion rate.
Lie #5: “We offer you a one-time fix and you’ll be good to go.”
Don’t throw your money away with shoddy SEO Companies that make false promises to you. SEO is not an overnight miracle method that you can set and forget.
