Boost Your YouTube Presence with these tips!
By now, you’ve probably heard about the importance of social media and maintaining a presence online, but are you including YouTube, the third most visited site on the internet, as one of your channels? Even if you already are, the following tips will help you get the most out of your videos on Youtube.
1. A Great YouTube Video Needs Great Content.
Above all other factors, great content is still the most important thing when it comes to producing videos for YouTube.
If you can answer yes to all of the following questions, you’re probably on the right track:
- Does video get my message get across?
- Does my video engage my viewers?
- Is my video worth sharing with others?
- Is my video the right length? (There’s no perfect length for a video; however, it’s better if you can get your message across without it feeling rushed.)
2. Be Found On YouTube With A Clean, Clear, and Concise Title.
When deciding on a title for your video, put yourself in your audience’s shoes, what are they going to be searching for? A great way to find inspiration for titles, is to perform a search on YouTube for a similar topic, and then take note of the titles of the videos that rank the highest.
You don’t want your title to be “too broad” but at the same time not be “too specific”, keep it simple and informative.
Ex.
- “House For Sale” (Too vague. Where is this house? What kind of house is it?)
- “Edmonton House For Sale” (Slightly vague. We know where the house is, but its still missing some details)
- “South Edmonton Duplex For Sale – Recently Renovated In Millwoods” (Great! The viewer knows what the video is about, the location, type of property, and a unique detail to separate it from the other results).
3. Get More Views With A Custom Thumbnail Image.
You know that tiny, rectangular image that pops-up under the title in the search results? Well that’s a thumbnail! For most people searching on Youtube, the thumbnail image of a video is just as, or sometimes more important than the title. Full steps on adding a cusotm thumbnail with image specs can viewed here: http://goo.gl/LAf3uj
Ex.
Poor thumbnail. The image is dark, low quality, and does grab attention.
Great thumbnail! The image is vibrant, good quality, and eye-catching.
4. Read This! Your Video Needs Strong Call-To-Actions.
So you’ve followed the three steps above and now you’re being seen and you’re viewers are interested in your message, but what now? You have to tell your viewers what they should do next, or else it’s on to the next video recommended by YouTube. Here’s a couple of ways to make sure you are capitalizing on every view:
Video Description: The video description is a very powerful tool when used properly. Include a link in the video description and some text that encourages clicks (Be sure important text fits in the first two lines of the video description or it will be cut off).
Ex. “Beautiful 1500 sq/ft Riverdale Condo. Want more info? Cick here: jonsmith.com/leadform or call 780-555-5555.”

Video Annotations: Another valuable tool for engaging viewers and encouraging what the do next. Here’s a common way a lot of active YouTubers use Annotations to suggest a viewer’s next move:
The image above, shows how annotations can be combined with the end of a video to create Call-To-Action buttons. For real estate, these buttons could lead to more of your listing videos, a YouTube playlist for listings in a specific neighbourhood or area, or a way for your viewers to subscribe and be alerted when you post more videos.
5. Unleash The Power Of Sharing.
Share, share, and share! What good is a video if it’s not seen by others? Let people know that you have videos. This includes posting the videos on your website, sharing them on your social media accounts, and even mentioning them to people in person, over the phone, or through email. Getting the word out isn’t easy, but at the end of the day, you have to be your own biggest promoter.
